Federal judge blocks White House plan to curb credit card late fees

The regulations, adopted by the CFPB in March, seek to cap late fees for credit card payments at $8, compared with current late fees of $30 or more. Although a bane for consumers, the fees generate about $9 billion a year for card issuers, according to the agency.

Divided Supreme Court rules no quick hearing required when police seize property
A divided Supreme Court ruled Thursday that authorities do not have to provide a quick hearing when they seize cars and other property used in drug crimes, even when the property belongs to so-called innocent owners.
By a 6-3 vote, the justices rejected the claims of two Alabama women who had to wait more than a year for their cars to be returned. Police had stopped the cars when they were being driven by other people and, after finding drugs, seized the vehicles.

New Michigan laws to regulate whippets goes into effect in June

Small nitrous oxide canisters called whippets will have new regulations next month in Michigan. In off-label use, whippets can give a user a very short high.
The governor has already signed a set of bills that aim at this dangerous usage and go into effect on June 10. People and business owners found selling whippets for recreational use could face a misdemeanor charge with up to 90 days in prison and a $5,000 fine, or both.
