Detroit judge is sued after putting teen in handcuffs, jail clothes during field trip

Attorneys for a teenager who was ordered into jail clothes and handcuffs during a field trip to a Detroit court filed a lawsuit against a judge Wednesday, accusing him of humiliation, false arrest and unlawful detention. It is the latest fallout since Judge Kenneth King singled out 15-year-old Eva Goodman for falling asleep and having what he considered to be a bad attitude while she was visiting 36th District Court on Aug. 13.

Michigan woman pleads guilty in arrest warrant scam

A Michigan woman has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud after a co-conspirator unintentionally set up an exchange of fake documents with a federal agent to obtain $60,000, officials said. Court documents show that woman admitted to working with at least one other person to try to scam a Grand Rapids resident out of $60,000 using fake documents, including an "FBI WARRANT OF ARREST" and "IRS RECEIPT." These documents had been printed out to give to the victim.

US Supreme Court is making it harder to sue - even for conservatives

Over its past two terms, the U.S. Supreme Court has put an end to five high-profile and politically sensitive cases emerging from one particular federal appeals court on the same basis, declaring that the litigation should not have been allowed in the first place.
In all five cases - involving abortion rights, online free speech, federal student loans, immigration and Native American child welfare - the justices overturned rulings by the staunchly conservative New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals or judges within that circuit.

Disney no longer trying to dismiss wrongful death lawsuit

Disney had asked the court to dismiss Piccolo’s lawsuit, claiming that he had agreed to settle any lawsuits against Disney out of court — all because he had signed up for a one-month trial of Disney+ in 2019 and acknowledged that he had reviewed the fine print.
“The Terms of Use, which were provided with the Subscriber Agreement, include a binding arbitration clause,” the company had written in its motion.
